On June 22, 2025, the US Air Force and Navy struck three Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan in Operation Midnight Hammer, joining Israel's bombing campaign that began June 13. President Trump ordered the strikes without congressional authorization. Seven B-2 bombers from Missouri flew 18-hour missions using 14 GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs. Iran retaliated against Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. A ceasefire was declared June 24. US officials claimed success while Defense Intelligence Agency assessments suggested the nuclear program setback may have lasted only months. Iran suspended IAEA cooperation on July 2.
