In 1615, after years of resistance, Rana Amar Singh I of Mewar finally surrendered to the Mughal forces led by Prince Khurram (future Emperor Shah Jahan). This marked the end of Mewar's independence, as the kingdom became a tributary state of the Mughal Empire. The treaty terms allowed Mewar to maintain some autonomy and the Sisodia rulers were exempted from personal attendance at the Mughal court, unlike other Rajput states. This conquest ended nearly a century of conflict between Mewar and the Mughals that had begun under Emperor Akbar.
