From November 1945 to October 1946, an International Military Tribunal convened by France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States tried 22 major Nazi leaders at the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, Germany. The defendants faced charges of crimes against peace, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and conspiracy. Twelve received death sentences, three were acquitted, and the remainder received prison terms ranging from 10 years to life. Twelve subsequent tribunals continued through 1949.
