Leonardo Da Vinci Paints Mona Lisa

1503 · Early Modern
Art

Leonardo da Vinci began painting the iconic Mona Lisa, a portrait believed to depict Lisa Gherardini (wife of Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo), around 1503. He worked on it intermittently for many years, possibly until 1517. After Leonardo's death in 1519, the painting was acquired by King Francis I of France and is now displayed in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
