c. 1000 AD · Late Antiquity
CulturePolitics

Around 1000 AD, Norse explorer Leif Erikson led an expedition that established a settlement in North America at a place they called Vinland, becoming the first known Europeans to set foot on the continent, nearly 500 years before Columbus. The Norse settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland, Canada, confirmed through archaeological evidence, is the only verified Viking site in North America.
