On November 3, 1992, Democratic Governor Bill Clinton of Arkansas defeated incumbent Republican President George H. W. Bush and independent businessman Ross Perot to become the 42nd President of the United States. Clinton won 370 electoral votes to Bush's 168, with Perot receiving no electoral votes despite capturing nearly 19% of the popular vote.
