The Battle of Clontarf was fought on Good Friday, April 23, 1014, near Dublin, Ireland. It pitted the forces of High King Brian Boru against a coalition led by Máel Mórda, King of Leinster, and Sigtrygg Silkbeard, Norse King of Dublin, who were supported by Viking mercenaries from the Isle of Man and Orkney. Although Brian Boru was killed in his tent after the battle by the Viking warrior Brodir, his forces were victorious. The battle is considered a turning point that ended Viking power in Ireland.
