On October 1, 1949, Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of the People's Republic of China at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. This historic event marked the conclusion of the Chinese Communist Revolution and the formation of a new communist state. Mao became Chairman of the Central People's Government, with Zhou Enlai as Premier and Zhu De as Commander-in-Chief of the People's Liberation Army.
