The Nydam boat, one of the oldest known clinker-built rowing vessels in Northern Europe, was constructed around 310-320 AD. Though predating the Viking Age, this oak-built vessel represents a key stage in Nordic shipbuilding tradition that led to Viking longships. It was 23 meters long, 3.5 meters wide, had 14 pairs of oars, and likely required a crew of about 45 men. The boat was later deposited as a ritual sacrifice in Nydam Mose bog.
