The Napoleonic Code (Code Napoléon), officially the Civil Code of the French, was established during the French Consulate on March 21, 1804. Drafted by a commission of four jurists, it created France's first coherent set of laws concerning property, family, and individual rights, replacing the previous patchwork of feudal and regional laws. The code became a model for civil law systems worldwide.
