Menelik II Crowned Emperor of Ethiopia

On November 3, 1889, Menelik II was consecrated and crowned Emperor of Ethiopia at the Church of Mary (Entoto Maryam) on Mount Entoto by Abuna Mattewos, Bishop of Shewa. Two days later, his wife Taytu Betul was crowned Empress. This coronation marked the beginning of Menelik II's reign which lasted until his death in 1913, during which he significantly expanded Ethiopian territory and successfully defended against Italian colonization attempts in the First Italo-Ethiopian War.
