Markov Chains

Andrey Markov published his groundbreaking work on stochastic processes, introducing what became known as Markov chains. This mathematical system, where the probability of future states depends only on the current state and not past history, became fundamental to language modeling, machine learning, and eventually large language models. Markov initially demonstrated his theory through analysis of letter patterns in Pushkin's poem 'Eugene Onegin.'
