The Lex Hortensia was a Roman law passed in 287 BCE that made all resolutions (plebiscita) passed by the Plebeian Council binding on all Roman citizens, including patricians. Dictator Quintus Hortensius enacted this law during a plebeian secession to the Janiculum Hill. The law eliminated the requirement for senatorial ratification of plebeian legislation and concluded the Conflict of the Orders, a centuries-long struggle between patricians and plebeians. The Lex Hortensia granted the plebeian assembly full legislative powers equal to other Roman assemblies, altering the Roman constitutional framework.
