Henry VIII Performed and Globe Theatre Fire

1613 AD · Early Modern
Art

Henry VIII (also titled All is True) was a collaborative history play, written by William Shakespeare and John Fletcher, based on the life of King Henry VIII. During a performance on June 29, 1613, a theatrical cannon misfired, igniting the Globe Theatre's thatched roof and burning the building to the ground within an hour. The play is noted for having more stage directions than any of Shakespeare's other works.
