The Giza pyramid complex reached completion around 2510 BCE with the Pyramid of Menkaure, the third royal pyramid on the plateau. The complex included the earlier pyramids of Khufu (c. 2580–2560 BCE) and Khafre (c. 2570 BCE), along with mortuary temples, causeways, queens' pyramids, and the Great Sphinx carved during Khafre's reign. The three pyramids were aligned with each other and celestial bodies. The completed complex functioned as a unified funerary landscape for Old Kingdom pharaohs and became a frequently visited and studied monument.
