First Mammaliaforms Emerge

225 Million years ago · Prehistoric
BiologyEvolution

Approximately 225 million years ago, the first mammals appeared on Earth during the Late Triassic period. Tiny shrew-like creatures like Brasilodon quadrangularis and Morganucodon, whose fossils have been found in Brazil and Wales respectively, were among the earliest true mammals. These small creatures coexisted with some of the oldest dinosaurs and represent a crucial evolutionary transition.
