First Image of Sagittarius A*

On May 12, 2022, the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration released the first image of Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy. The image confirmed the existence of the black hole, showing its event horizon as a dark central region surrounded by a bright ring of hot gas. This was the second black hole ever imaged, following M87* in 2019.
