The First Dynasty of Babylon was founded around 1894 BC when the Amorite king Samu-abum established a small kingdom centered on the city of Babylon in Mesopotamia. The dynasty reached its height under the sixth king, Hammurabi (reigned 1792-1750 BC), who conquered neighboring territories and established the first Babylonian Empire that controlled most of Mesopotamia. This Amorite dynasty ruled for about 300 years until approximately 1595 BC and is known for establishing the Code of Hammurabi, one of the earliest and most complete written legal systems in history.
