Death of Peter the Great

On February 8, 1725, Peter the Great, Emperor of Russia, died in Saint Petersburg at the age of 52 from a bladder infection. During his reign (1682-1725), Peter implemented sweeping reforms that modernized Russia, expanded its territory, and established it as a major European power. Following his death, his wife Catherine I succeeded him as Empress, becoming the first female ruler of Imperial Russia.
