The Council of Basel-Ferrara-Florence (1431-1445) was the 17th ecumenical council of the Catholic Church, initially convoked in Basel by Pope Martin V and continued by Pope Eugene IV. The council began in Basel (1431-1437), moved to Ferrara (1438-1439), and finally to Florence (1439-1445), where it achieved a temporary union between the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.
