Cotton Gin Invented by Eli Whitney

In 1793, Eli Whitney, with support from Catharine Greene, invented the cotton gin, a mechanical device that efficiently separated cotton fibers from their seeds. This revolutionary invention dramatically increased cotton processing productivity and profitability, transforming the agricultural economy of the American South and unfortunately contributing to the expansion of slavery.
