Construction of the Colosseum began under Emperor Vespasian around 72 CE and was completed under Titus in 80 CE, with final modifications by Domitian. Built on the site of Nero's former palace, the structure was funded by spoils from the First Jewish-Roman War. The elliptical amphitheater featured concrete foundations six meters deep, a complex vault system, and multiple seating tiers accommodating up to 50,000 spectators. The Colosseum hosted gladiatorial combats, animal hunts, executions, and public spectacles for approximately 400 years.
