Beginning of Kali Yuga

ReligionCultureAstronomy

According to Hindu cosmology, the Kali Yuga—the current and darkest of four cyclical world ages (yugas)—began on February 17/18, 3102 BCE, marked by the departure of Krishna from Earth. Traditional calculations place this as the start of a 432,000-year period of declining spirituality and moral values. This date also reportedly coincided with significant astronomical alignments and has been calculated by numerous Hindu astronomers including Aryabhata. The start of Kali Yuga represents 1/1000th of Brahma's day in Hindu time reckoning, which conceptualizes cosmic time in vast cycles spanning billions of years where the universe undergoes repeated cycles of creation and destruction.
