In his astronomical treatise 'Aryabhatiya,' Indian mathematician and astronomer Aryabhata proposed that Earth rotates on its axis, contradicting prevailing geocentric models. He explained that stars' apparent daily motion from east to west resulted from Earth's rotation from west to east, using an analogy of a person in a moving boat perceiving stationary objects as moving oppositely. This concept preceded similar European insights by approximately one thousand years. Many contemporaries and successors rejected this idea. His work included accurate measurements of the solar year and planetary positions.
