20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (French: Vingt Mille Lieues sous les mers) is a classic science fiction adventure novel by French writer Jules Verne. The novel was originally serialized from March 1869 to June 1870 in Pierre-Jules Hetzel's periodical Magasin d'éducation et de récréation, before being published as a complete book in 1870. A deluxe illustrated edition followed in 1871. The novel tells the story of Captain Nemo and his advanced submarine Nautilus, as seen through the perspective of Professor Pierre Aronnax.
